Operator: Veepo

Veepo displays job postings from employers, applicant tracking systems, job-search providers and other sources. We want users to be able to identify and report postings that may be fraudulent.

1. What this policy covers

A posting may be fraudulent where someone intends to deceive job seekers for an improper purpose. Examples include a posting that:

  • advertises a job or employer that does not exist to obtain money or personal information;
  • impersonates a real employer, recruiter or employee;
  • asks an applicant to pay for a job, equipment, training, immigration help, a background check or another supposed hiring step in suspicious circumstances;
  • asks for banking credentials, gift cards, cryptocurrency, passwords, verification codes or unusually sensitive identity documents;
  • directs the applicant to a lookalike website, unofficial email domain or suspicious messaging account;
  • sends a fake cheque or asks the applicant to transfer or return funds;
  • materially misrepresents the employer, role, location, compensation or hiring process as part of a scheme; or
  • appears designed for identity theft, financial exploitation, malware delivery or another unlawful purpose.

An honest error, stale posting, compensation dispute or disagreement about a workplace is not necessarily fraud, but you may still report a posting that appears unsafe or materially misleading.

2. How to report a posting

Use the Report job control on any job's detail screen in the Veepo app. You may also contact support@veepo.app. (A no-account web report form is planned; until it ships, reporting is available in the app.)

Please provide as much of the following as you safely can:

  • the Veepo job link or job title, company and location;
  • why you believe the posting is fraudulent or unsafe;
  • suspicious email addresses, domains, phone numbers or payment requests;
  • relevant screenshots or messages, with unrelated personal information removed; and
  • an email address if you want a reply.

Do not send passwords, financial-account credentials, government identification numbers or other information that is unnecessary for the report.

3. How Veepo addresses reports

Depending on the information available and the apparent risk, Veepo may:

  1. acknowledge and triage the report;
  2. temporarily limit, label or hide the posting while it is reviewed;
  3. compare the posting with its source and the employer's official careers site;
  4. contact the employer, ATS, job-data supplier or reporter for clarification;
  5. examine related postings, domains, accounts and technical indicators;
  6. remove the posting, disable application actions or block a source associated with fraud;
  7. warn affected users where doing so is appropriate and lawful;
  8. preserve relevant records; and
  9. refer or respond to law enforcement, regulators, job-data providers or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre where appropriate.

Veepo prioritizes reports involving an imminent payment request, identity theft, malware, threats, exploitation or an active impersonation campaign. Veepo aims to acknowledge an online report within five to ten business days, but complex investigations can take longer.

Veepo decides what action is appropriate based on the available evidence, risk to users, source restrictions and applicable law. Submitting a report does not guarantee removal, a particular outcome or an individual status update.

4. User safety

  • Verify the role through the employer's official website and contact information.
  • Be cautious if an interview occurs only through text or an unofficial messaging service.
  • Do not pay to obtain a job or send money on an employer's behalf.
  • Do not provide passwords, one-time codes, online banking access, gift cards or cryptocurrency.
  • Treat unexpected cheques and requests to buy equipment or return funds as suspicious.
  • Stop communicating if you feel unsafe and preserve copies of relevant messages.

If you believe you have lost money, disclosed identity information or encountered criminal fraud, contact your local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Contact your financial institution immediately if account or payment information may be at risk.

5. Reports, privacy and good faith

Veepo handles personal information in a report under its Privacy Policy. We may disclose report information where reasonably necessary to investigate, protect users, enforce our Terms or comply with law. We will avoid identifying a reporter to the subject of a report unless necessary, authorized or legally required.

Reports must be made in good faith. Do not knowingly submit false reports, impersonate another person, harass an employer or use this process to manipulate job availability or company ratings.

6. Changes and record retention

Veepo posts the current version of this policy in a conspicuous location on its web and mobile job platform. When this policy changes, Veepo updates the version and effective date.

Veepo retains each superseded version of this written policy for at least three years after it ceases to be in effect, as required by Ontario's Employment Standards Act. Investigation records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance and claims under the Privacy Policy.
